Who are the Friends?

The Friends of Clarence Dillon Public Library was founded in 1984 by a group of citizens to address a significant gap between public funding and the cost of providing leading-edge library services for our community. We support the ongoing use of the library as a community center and provide financial resources to the library for programs, lectures, and services to meet the educational and informational needs of our community.

The Friends raises funds through an annual appeal, author and book forums, and local-interest receptions. We use these funds to support ongoing services, including weekly gatherings to play mahjong and bridge, chair yoga, guided meditation, feature film screenings and series, museum trips, children’s Storytime, English as a Second Language (ESL), and much more.

Who was Clarence Dillon?

Clarence Dillon was a leading financier for almost half a century. Born in San Antonio, Texas, September 27, 1882, to parents of Polish and French descent, he attended Worcester Academy and Harvard University. He resided in Far Hills, New Jersey, and died April 14, 1979 at 96 years old.
